Barcelona have been very sparing in their use of midfielder Sergi Samper on the senior squad, giving him just a handful of minutes over the last two seasons. However, the club’s foot-dragging over Samper’s potential contract extension has opened the door for Manchester City or Arsenal to swoop in and land the young star.
According to Transfer Tavern, Man City have recently expressed interest in bringing Samper to the Etihad for Pep Guardiola to coach. Per the source, the Citizens are willing to meet the £9 million buyout clause in his contract.
However, Barcelona are working on hammering out a new deal with Samper with the hopes that he can one day replace Sergio Busquets.
Samper has played the majority of his senior career with Barcelona B, making 100 appearances for the La Liga giants’ lower tier. He has made only 11 appearances for Barcelona’s main roster since last season.
Arsenal are also believed to be interested in bringing in Samper as a replacement for some of their departing veterans.
