It has not been a great season for Man City star defender Vincent Kompany and the Citizens have often suffered mightily for it. Yet despite the disappointing and injury-shortened season with Man City, Kompany will not be on the transfer block when Pep Guardiola takes over next season.
According to the Telegraph, Kompany’s agent Jacques Lichtenstein reaffirmed that the Belgian superstar is committed to Manchester City, and believes his best years are still ahead of him – not to mention he is still under contract for three more years.
“Vincent is stronger than ever,” Lichtenstein said. “We are in touch on a daily basis and he’s absolutely not worried about his future. That’s his strength. He still has a contract for three seasons, he’s the captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world and he’s convinced his best years are ahead of him. He still stays an important player in the squad. The stats are proving it. Why would he be leaving?”
Kompany is set to make his return to the starting lineup against Chelsea this weekend after missing a month due to a calf injury – his fourth of the season. Assuming that Kompany has no further setbacks between mid-March and the end of April, he should be featured in the Champions League semi-finals.
The Belgian star has made only 19 appearances for the Citizens this season – with the team recording a clean sheet in 10 of those matches and winning 11 of them.
