The Frenchman struck with a header just 10 minutes before half time, which now leaves the tie well poised ahead an intriguing second half with Barcelona heading out of the competition as it stands.
Griezmann has scored nine goals in his last 10 appearances for the capital club as the 25-year-old continues to prove to be an integral part of his side’s success. In turn, with the aggregate score at 2-2, Barca will crash out on away goals.
Although the Catalan giants dominated possession at the Vicente Calderon in the opening period, Atleti were the more dangerous side on the counter attack and will be confident of finding another goal.
Ter Stegen was surprisingly the busier of the two goalkeepers, and so Luis Enrique will undoubtedly need a much improved performance from his side in the second half.
The likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar will ensure that they remain a threat right through to the final whistle, but the hosts have produced a well-organised defensive display as expected thus far, and so it promises to be a real test of Barcelona’s credentials.
