Arsenal midfielder to receive tempting offer to leave Emirates this summer

Southampton have made re-signing Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain their priority in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.

The Mirror reports that the Saints will offer the England international the vice-captaincy to get him ahead of Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham United.

The Mirror understands that Oxlade-Chamberlain is happy at the Emirates Stadium, but is desperate to play more and will consider his future at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old showed wonderful promise upon joining the Gunners from Southampton in 2011, but his development has stalled somewhat in recent years.

He failed to register a single Premier League goal or assist throughout 2015, and seems to have fallen down the pecking order of Arsene Wenger’s wide options.

Southampton have taken great strides since selling Oxlade-Chamberlain, establishing themselves as a top-half Premier League team with European ambitions.

And their reported commitment to giving him the vice-captaincy is a sign that he will be a crucial figure at St Mary’s. This could be a happy reunion for all parties.
