Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has been ruled out of their Champions League quarter-final second leg with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening.
The Belgian, who has not played since Dynamo Kiev’s visit to Eastlands in the last round on March 15, trained with his City teammates today, according to Sky Sports.
However, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed to Man City’s official website that he will not be ready to face the Ligue 1 champions as he nurses a persistent calf problem.
Kompany’s absence will be a big blow to Pellegrini, but at least the City manager has Nicolas Otamendi available to deputise after the Argentine shook off a twisted ankle.
Pellegrini will likely go with the pairing of Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala in central defence, although that is not a partnership which has inspired confidence this season.
City’s defence is alarmingly weaker without Kompany. Only five of the 33 goals that they have conceded in the Premier League games this term have come in his 12 starts.
But City find themselves in a good position following last week’s reverse fixture in France, where away goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Fernandinho earned them a 2-2 draw.
