River Plate vice-president Matias Patanian has confirmed that his club are considering a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
The club chief admitted that the stopper was the kind of player that typically interests his club, but confirmed that head coach and former Argentina international Marcelo Gallardo would have the final say on whether River move for the keeper or not.
“Romero is a very good goalkeeper, that’s nothing new,” Patanian said of the keeper, as per The Sun.
“River is always interested in good players and Romero is one of them,” he continued.
“It’s true what he said about that we haven’t got in touch with him, but that is because we are waiting for our coach to tell us if he finally wants us to make an offer to Romero.
“In football you never know, what today is no, tomorrow is yes. I think that it can be interesting for him coming to River,” Patanian concluded.
Romero is currently back in South America and was in action for Argentina earlier in the weekend as they came from behind to defeat Chile 2-1 away in World Cup qualification.

While the goalie, who previously represented the likes of AZ Alkmaar, Sampdoria and AS Monaco, hasn’t played too much at United, he showed no signs of rustiness as the Albiceleste edged closer to the World Cup in Russia.
The 29-year-old was signed by Louis van Gaal at the beginning of the season, and while it had initially appeared as though he might succeed David De Gea, who was linked with a move to Real Madrid, the keeper has had to content himself with playing backup to the Spain international, who has remained at Old Trafford.
