In one of the most spectacular games of the year at any level of competition so far, England overcame a 2-0 deficit in a hostile German stadium against the reigning World Cup champions to eke out a 3-2 win thanks to a trio of second-year players on their squad.
Tottenham Hotspur stars Harry Kane and Eric Dier, along with Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy, all contributed to 30 minutes of heaven for England as they each scored a goal to seal the win for Roy Hodgson’s side.
Here are the England player ratings vs Germany:
GK Jack Butland – 5
He had an uneventful first half but ultimately he succumbed to a non-contact injury before the end of the first half that may have contributed to his conceded goal.
DF Nathaniel Clyne – 7
Delivered a perfect cross to Vardy to set up the equalizing goal.
DF Chris Smalling – 6
DF Gary Cahill – 5.5
Passing was way off in key spots.
DF Danny Rose – 6.5
Made an incredible save prior to the end of the first half to save a would-be goal.
MF Jordan Henderson – 7.5
Set up Harry Kane well on the striker’s goal.
MF Eric Dier – 8.5
Made the simple but perfect finish to seal the win for England.
MF Dele Alli – 7
The first-half MVP, but the second-half goat with the easiest chance of his career that merely sailed above the crossbar.
MF Adam Lallana – 7
MF Danny Welbeck – 6.5
Took too much time setting up shots in the first half.
FW Harry Kane – 8
Proved with yet another strong performance (and a goal to boot) that he is, in fact, the future of English forwards.
Substitutes:
Fraser Forster – 7
Gave up a goal less than 15 minutes into the second half. He has become a far cry from the 6-straight clean sheet wizard that took the BPL by storm at Southampton.
Jamie Vardy – 10
Same old Vardy: Scores at will. He also set up the perfect chance for Dele Alli that the Tottenham ace couldn’t capitalize on.
Ross Barkley – 7
