Dutch international is Arsenal’s kind of player, says ex-Gunner

Podolski

Ex-Arsenal star Lukas Podolski has talked up his Galatasaray teammate Wesley Sneijder, suggesting the Dutch international would be perfectly suited to life at the Emirates, as reported by Goal.

The German star initially struggled after his move to Turkey, but has managed to get himself 12 goals and four assists so far this season. He’s been combining well with Sneijder, who has also been racking up the goals and assists from midfield.

Podolski was full of praise for the 31-year-old Dutchman, highlighting the similarities in his play-style compared to that of Arsenal’s.

“I played for Arsenal for three years, with a special style of play with short passes, and Wesley is exactly that kind of player,” he said.

“No doubt, he is a brilliant player. I get along well with him – on the pitch and off it. He is an important part of the club and we both strengthen our attack.”

Podolski also had a message for his Arsenal teammates, sending them luck as they look to make one final push for the Premier League title.

“It’s a tough fight at the top of Premier League, like every year,” he continued.

“There are three or four teams who can win the title. My fingers are crossed for Arsenal.”

Leicester City look very likely to lift the trophy come the end of the season, with the Foxes building up a solid lead ahead of Tottenham and Arsenal. The two London clubs aren’t quite out of the running yet though, and with this situation completely foreign territory for Leicester, anything could happen.

Mathematically we could still see a shock winner, and Podolski will be hoping his old side can make one final push. Despite his poor form at Arsenal he was always popular among fans, and even after his departure he’s still clearly a bit of an Arsenal fan himself.
