According to reports in Spain, Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have finally put pen to paper on a contract.
As noted by Spanish paper El Pais [as per the Mirror], the former Chelsea manager has signed a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United to take over at Old Trafford this summer.
The report states that the contract confirms that Mourinho will be appointed before June 1, and that if he is not, he is owed £15 million in compensation by the Red Devils.
The manager was dismissed by Chelsea in December, only six months after winning the Premier League title with the Pensioners. However, he was wholly unable to build on that success, and lost his job early in the 2015-16 season after taking the Blues into the bottom half of the table.
Despite this, his stock remains high—clearly in the eyes of United officials—who appear to have made a financial commitment to the Portuguese coach.
Should United lose the Manchester derby against City on Sunday, Mourinho may have no need to wait until June 1 to move to Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal’s position at the club surely becoming increasingly untenable.
