Remember back in 2013 when Manchester United’s Champions League dreams were ended by a 2-1 home defeat to Real Madrid?
Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo scored the goals from Real, but only after Nani had been sent off in somewhat controversial circumstances.
So controversial was the decision that Roy Keane even agreed with the referee. Madness.
Nani’s challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa that night was clumsy.
But it was not half as clumsy as the ‘challenge’ Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll made on Borussia Dortmund’s Marcel Schmelzer this evening.
With Spurs already 1-0 down, Carroll could easily have made his side’s task much harder by being sent off.
Fortunately for Tottenham, the ref deemed Carroll’s assault worthy of just a yellow card.
Was he a lucky boy?
