It doesn’t take a diehard fan of Liverpool to know that the team needs to undergo a serious roster overhaul if manager Jurgen Klopp has any shot at building the team into a consistent winner. Luckily for the Reds, Klopp knows it too and is waiting with baited breath for the summer transfer window.
According to the Metro, Klopp has confirmed that the club have already begun setting up a gameplan for their approach to the 2016 summer transfer window.
‘Yes we are planning for next season,’ Klopp said.
‘Clearly we plan for next season. We have to wait for the right decision and we have to think about a lot of things.’
Many big targets from Klopp’s Bundesliga stomping grounds have been linked with bids from Liverpool, including but not limited to Mario Gotze, Ilkay Gundogan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
‘There is nothing to say yet. It is not I can say that we are close to this decision or that decision. But we work the whole day and it is not just preparing for games.
‘We don’t have to be first or anything (in the transfer market), but in the end we have to plan for the future and that is what we are doing.’
The 2015 summer transfer window was a mixed bag but largely disappointing. The team sold Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for a king’s ransom and saw Steven Gerrard leave for LA Galaxy. Their biggest pickup was striker Christian Benteke for £32.5 million and Roberto Firmino for £21.3 million – but the pair have contributed just 13 goals and 9 assists in 54 combined appearances.
