AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has made an outrageous racist comment about Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, who is currently on loan at the San Siro.
Speaking at an event to celebrate 30 years of Berlusconi’s presidency at Milan, the 79-year-old discussed the current state of the Rossoneri squad, and made a remarkable comment about the Italy international.
“We have a squad full of talent,” Berlusconi began, speaking to Sky Sport Italia, “such as Menez and Balotelli, who is Italian, although he looks as though he had a big too much sun.”
After the gaffe, Berlusconi went on to praise Balotelli’s qualities, potentially trying to cover up for his earlier comment: “Mario has unmatched athletic abilities,” he continued.
“In training I see him taking shots that break through the net, he has outstanding ball control.”
Berlusconi’s comments don’t hide the fact that Balotelli has been a major flop since leaving Liverpool to attempt to revive his career at Milan.
The former Inter Milan forward has managed just 10 Serie A appearances with Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side, of which only two have been starts.
While the attacker has had some injury and fitness concerns which have limited his contribution, he will be disappointed with his return of one goal and zero assists, and it appears highly unlikely that Milan will look to make the attacker’s temporary stay permanent at the end of the campaign.
Balotelli’s struggles are nothing new, and the attacker managed just one goal in 16 Premier League showings last term, during his maiden campaign at Liverpool.
