Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian has taken to social media to assure supporters that he is recovering well from injury.
Louis van Gaal caused concern by revealing that the Italian international was spitting blood after a collision with Shane Long during the 1-0 loss to Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The 26-year-old was taken to hospital to be checked out, but fortunately for United and the Dutch tactician he is expected to return soon.
“Thank you all for the support. I’m fine. See you soon,” he wrote on Twitter.
It will be welcome news for Van Gaal as he is already without the likes of Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw all through injury as he continues to be severely limited with his defensive options.
Having come under fierce criticism after the weekend’s result, the former Ajax boss even suggested that the Darmian injury had contributed to their downfall as it ruined their momentum in the game.
It remains to be seen if Darmian features against Derby County in the FA Cup on Friday night, but it is certainly positive news that the former Torino star will be back in action sooner rather than later.
