Chelsea could be without two of their key men against West Bromwich Albion this Wednesday, with Eden Hazard and Diego Costa major doubts for the Premier League clash, according to Goal.
The Blues have been in atrocious form this season, and consequently find themselves way, way down the table. They’ve unquestionably looked a different team under new boss Guus Hiddink, but their poor start to the campaign means they can’t afford even the slightest slip-up if they want to finish in a respectable position.
Being without a couple of top stars will obviously put them at a disadvantage, and Costa and Hazard will definitely be missed against the Baggies.
The injuries were picked up during Chelsea’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Scunthorpe, and speaking after the game, Hiddink revealed he had no intention of rushing Hazard back.
“We want to be cautious with Eden. We don’t want him to fall again with muscle problems,” Hiddink said.
“I want to be careful with him so that he doesn’t start too early. It will maybe be a week later [than necessary] rather than too early.”
Costa hobbled off the pitch during the game, and now, along with Hazard, looks set to miss their next game. With the Spaniard just coming into a bit of form this will certainly be disappointing for Hiddink, but should see a chance handed to bit-part player Loic Remy.
Hazard’s form this season means he won’t be as much of a miss as he normally would, but Chelsea would obviously rather have the Belgian available for selection.
