Man United race Premier League rival to January signing of combative Serie A star

Manchester United and Everton are said to be battling each other for the signature of highly regarded AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata, according to reports in Spain.

The Colombian international has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at the San Siro this season, and has since seen his name linked with an exit from the Serie A giants in the new year.

The 29-year-old’s current deal with Milan expires at the end of the season, meaning they could be tempted to cash in on him now rather than waiting to lose him for free at the end of the season.

And according to reports, he has no shortage of offers to take him off of Milan’s hands.

Zapata has spent the majority of his career in Italy, having played for Udinese for six years before embarking on a loan spell with Villarreal in Spain in 2011.

He then joined Milan, but has made just eight appearances for the club this term. However, that hasn’t been enough to keep him out of the Colombian squad playing their way to Russia 2018.
