After an embarrassing loss to Southampton over the weekend, Arsenal needed a spark – preferably early – in order to recuperate and continue their run for the Premier League title. Arsene Wenger made plenty of changes to the Arsenal XI heading into their home clash with Bournemouth, particularly on defence, but the moves paid off in a huge way on Monday.
With more than 25 minutes gone in the first half, Mesut Ozil was given the corner kick – a move he immediately executed perfectly into the awaiting forehead of Gabriel (of all people) who smashed in the kick for an Arsenal score.
Arsenal were two points behind Leicester City on the table heading into the match and need a win to move ahead of them (if only temporarily).
The goal from Gabriel was his first of the season, but the assist from Ozil was his 16th in the Premier League in the 2015 calendar year alone.
