According to reports, Chelsea are nearing a deal to sign Charlton Athletic wonderkid Ademola Lookman.
The talented Nigerian teenager has been linked to a whole host of major sides in recent weeks, with the Daily Star noting earlier this month that heavyweight trio Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City were all keen to compete with the Blues for the 18-year-old.
However, according to The Sun, Chelsea are set to win the race for the West African.
The report reveals that ‘insiders’ have informed them that the Pensioners are ‘close to a deal’ for the forward, who would help boost the club’s homegrown player quota.
The tabloid also notes that Southampton are keen on the player, although the Saints may struggle to compete with the reigning Premier League champions, who have a fine heritage of Nigerian players and may well appeal to London-born Lookman.
The youngster has made a handful of appearances for the Championship outfit, and has already hit more than 15 goals for the Valiants’ U18 and U21 sides.
He joined from Waterloo FC in 2014.
