Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal asked the media for an apology at his press conference on Wednesday amid intense speculation over his future.

Speaking to reporters, as noted by Sky Sports, the Dutchman was far from happy with the claims that have been made this week suggesting that he was set to lose his job at Old Trafford.
After three straight defeats in all competitions, which have resulted in an early elimination from the Champions League and losing their place in the Premier League top four, the former Ajax boss has come under immense pressure to turn things around quickly.
However, he was in no joking mood on Wednesday as he answered two questions in a tense atmosphere in the press room and ended with a sarcastic message wishing those in attendance a Merry Christmas before walking out.
The situation was brought to light after Van Gaal was told about Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger’s comments earlier in the day in which the Frenchman slammed the “disrespectful” nature of the rumours about his peer.
“Has anybody in this room not a feeling to apologise to me? That’s what I am wondering. I think I was already sacked, I have read. Or have been sacked. Or that my colleague [Jose Mourinho] was here already,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.
Van Gaal was clearly disappointed and upset with the fact that the speculation has had an effect on his family and friends who have been under the impression that he will lose his job imminently, but he remained defiant in the sense that he claimed that in time his side could be back at the top of the Premier League.
