Popular Italian tactician Carlo Ancelotti reportedly turned down a concrete offer from Manchester United in order to take the reigns at Bayern Munich, according to Spanish radio station COPE.
As Pep Guardiola’s exit from the Bundesliga club this summer is virtually confirmed, they have moved quickly to secure his replacement, who the spanish station confirm as being Ancelotti.
However, it has also been claimed that the Red Devils had made their own play to bring the former Chelsea boss on board, with the club’s hierarchy even going so far as to offer him a contract to take over from Louis van Gaal.
But after missing out on Ancelotti, United are now free to make their play to land Guardiola, though they will face some stiff competition from cross city rivals Manchester City.
With discontent growing around Louis van Gaal’s tenure at the helm, he may not manage to complete his contract at Old Trafford, which runs until 2017.
