Highly-rated young midfielder Marko Grujic has confirmed that he has held talks with Liverpool over a possible move to Anfield, according to the Daily Express.
The Red Star Belgrade starlet had previously been linked with a £3million move to Chelsea, having drawn comparisons with compatriot Nemanja Matic (via Express).
He had also apparently been attracting interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Roma, but could now become one of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s first signing since taking over (via Express).
The Express claims that Liverpool scouts watched him bag a goal in Red Star’s 7-2 victory over Cukaricki in the Serbian Super League on Saturday, before meeting with his agent after the game.
However, the move is unlikely to happen in January after he admitted that he didn’t think he would be moving on until the end of the current campaign.
“It is certain that I remain here until the end of qualifying for the Champions League,” he said. “I had a talk with Liverpool, but I did not receive yet any agreement. I’m still a Red Star player.
“I’ll try to respect the club, the fans and the general public, but I think that for myself I have to choose the best environment, where I will get the chance to play and where I work with good coaches in good conditions.”
Grujic was reportedly recommended to Klopp by his Bosnian number 2 Zeljko Buvac, and is under contract at Red Star until 2018 (via Express).
