Manchester United transfer news: 21-year-old defender signs new deal

Manchester United full-back Donald Love has extended his loan deal at Wigan Athletic.

The highly rated Scot has impressed since beginning his temporary stay at the DW Stadium, and while injury was affected his progress over recent weeks, Gary Caldwell is understood to be keen to keep hold of the 21-year-old.

The Scottish U-21 international has been suffering with a muscle strain, but the League One outfit clearly see enough in the defender to extend his stay in League One.

“Donald was unlucky because he had been doing well prior to getting injured and he adds great competition on the right hand side,” said Wigan boss Caldwell, as reported by the Daily Star.

“He’s a young player who’s still learning the game and his attitude has been terrific since being with the group.”

Rochdale-born Love has been at Old Trafford for 13 years, having joined the club as a child, and while he is yet to feature for the Red Devils, he has represented Scotland at U-17, U-19 and U-21 levels.

The defender was only five games into his stint at Wigan when injury struck, but his extended deal means that he will surely get the chance to impress his new club before returning to Old Trafford.
