A terrible cock up from Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark inside the first 30 seconds of the MLS Cup final set the Portland Timbers on their way to their first ever MLS Cup title this weekend.
Striker Diego Valeri pounced on the loose ball to give the visitors a 1-0 lead with barely a minute played, before Rodney Wallace added a second just seven minutes later.
Colombus pulled one back just before halftime through former Middlesbrough striker Kei Kamara, but the hosts were unable to force their way back into the game.
Former Aston Villa and Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell was on hand to lift the trophy, and help celebrate the franchise’s first title since joining Major League Soccer back in 2011.
Ridgewell was at the centre of the celebrations back in the dressing room.
