Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that the Lilywhites are on the lookout for a new striker, and he remains hopeful that he will sign another forward in January.
Saido Berahino has been linked with the White Hart Lane heavyweights in the past, and the West Bromwich Albion hitman will get his chance to demonstrate why Spurs should renew their interest in him when Tottenham travel to The Hawthorns this weekend.
While Spurs have started the Premier League season exceptionally well—and haven’t lost since the opening day—they remain light up top.
Indeed, apart from 22-year-old frontman Harry Kane, it’s hard to immediately find viable candidates to lead the line for the White Hart Lane heavyweights. Indeed, should injury or a loss of form befall Kane—who has eight goals in 14 outings so far this season—Tottenham’s push for a Champions League place may be derailed.
Speaking to The Guardian, Pochettino has confirmed that he is aware of the deficiency in the squad and that he will be working to address it during January.
“We have offensive players who can play like Harry,” Pochettino said. “There is [Son Heung-min] or [Nacer] Chadli or Clinton [N’Jie] – they can play like a striker. But I recognise they are not specific strikers, so maybe we work to try to find such a player we can add in the next transfer window or in the summer. We are trying to follow players now but it is very difficult.
“What is most important is that we do not rock the balance of the team. It is important we find someone who is very specific. For me, always, you want to find a striker that scores a lot of goals and who has good physical condition, good characteristics, who can press, work hard and is a nice guy, too.”
Spurs have found the net 24 times in 14 Premier League outings so far this term, and while they have often impressed in offensive areas, they have dropped points against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United after missing big chances.

One potential solution may be West Bromwich Albion frontman Saido Berahino, who was linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer [as per the Daily Mail].
According to the Mail, Spurs could be set to renew their interest in the Ango-Burundian forward during the January transfer window and, with Tottenham set to travel to the Baggies this weekend, Pochettino is likely to have ample opportunity to see his potential new recruit in action.
