A recent report from The Independent revealed that Manchester United have expressed significant interest in Fulham FC striker Moussa Dembele. The 19-year-old French striker certainly has some comparisons to Man United’s rising star Anthony Martial, from his young age age to his ascent on France’s lineup to his speed and eye for the goal.
Dembele certainly brings a lot to the table, but Man United are – and almost always will be – in “win now” mode and are in a prime position to make a big run right now. Besides, Manchester United already have Martial to develop into their next star striker and might really be better served to pick up an experienced veteran in his prime to become the last piece of a championship puzzle.
With that in mind here is a look at five forwards Man United manager Louis van Gaal should work on pursuing instead of Moussa Dembele.

Cristiano Ronaldo
Reports of a reunion between Ronaldo and Man United have persisted almost since the scoring genius moved to Real Madrid. He’ll be expensive for sure, but Ronaldo is still a bonafide scoring threat and is far more lethal than either Wayne Rooney or Anthony Martial.
Jamie Vardy
Any time someone takes down a major record held by a Mancheter United legend – in this case, Ruud van Nistelrooy – you can expect substantial interest from the Red Devils. Vardy appears to be on pace for a near-historic season in the Premier League and can break the record for consecutive games with a score in his next fixture.
Edinson Cavani
Rumours have persisted that Cavani wants out of Paris Saint-Germain, and if a price can’t be reached with Arsenal, Man United could be poised to pounce on a devastating striker. He has been a consistent winner with Zlatan at his side, and can probably do just as well alongside Wayne Rooney.
Gareth Bale
If reports are accurate, Bale appears to be pining for a return to the Premier League. He is perhaps one of the ten best players in the world, and Man United would need to shatter the transfer record to bring him back to England. It would most likely be a deal worth making though.
Harry Kane
If there is one person who would make a great addition to Man United, it’s Tottenham’s Harry Kane. The young scoring machine is already a teammate to Wayne Rooney for England. It would likely be a huge boost for both Man United and the Three Lions with Rooney and Kane building chemistry constantly.
