REVEALED – FM16: Football Manager 16 highest wages; Is Wayne Rooney REALLY paid less than his Man United teammate?

It may prove a little bit harder to buy your way to victory in Football Manager 2016 than it is in real life. After all, unlike actual clubs, there’s a limit as to how much you can spend to build your team (otherwise anyone could put Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar in their starting XI).

Be vigilant of the wages paid to your top players, because the better they do the more they’re going to want, and far too many fine FM players have fallen by the wayside

Here are the 16 highest Football Manager 16 wages, the players who are paid the most on the latest edition of the world’s greatest football management simulator, starting with a player Arsenal would likely give a massive raise to bring to Emirates Stadium…

16. Edinson Cavani – £180k/week

Cavani will likely take the reins as PSG’s scoring leader once Zlatan finally leaves, but for now, he’s a very well-compensated second option.

15. Eden Hazard – £180k/week

Considering that the reigning MVP of the Premier League is only the 15th highest-paid player, it’s no wonder he’s believed to want out of Stamford Bridge.

14. Ivan Rakitic – £185k/week

Rakitic sometimes comes across as a forgotten man at Barcelona since he has three of the best players in the world surrounding him, but one quick look at his bank account and he’ll probably tolerate being the third-best midfielder on Europe’s best team.

13. Yaya Toure – £190k/week

With David Silva on the shelf, Man City have needed Toure to step his game up – and he has, in a big way.

12. David de Gea – £200k/week

De Gea has seemingly left all the bad blood between him and Man United behind and is putting together a terrific season as the Old Trafford stopper.

11. Andres Iniesta – £220k/week

Yet another Barcelona star on the list, Iniesta has been a reliable midfield option for the club since 1998.

10. Karim Benzema – £225k/week

Expect that number to change dramatically depending on the results of his criminal blackmailing case.

9. Wayne Rooney – £235k/week

Naturally the wealthiest team in the Premier League has the highest-paid players. Hopefully Rooney will actually earn that money in the next few years!

8. Bastian Schweinsteiger – £240k/week

A real head-scratcher here, not that he hasn’t earned his wages, but is the former Bayern Munich star really being paid more than his Man United teammate?

7. Sergio Ramos – £250k/week

One of the world’s top defenders, Ramos has been a thorn in Barcelona’s side for year.

6. Neymar – £300k/week

Barcelona’s leading scorer in the absence of Lionel Messi, Neymar may soon surpass No. 10 as the best player on the team.

5. Zlatan – £300k/week

Zlatan does not have a ton of time left to win more titles, but he’s still playing like a man ten years younger.

4. Luis Suarez – £325k/week

With how well he’s playing for Barcelona, it may be years before Liverpool learn to live with selling Suarez.

3. Gareth Bale – £350k/week

After paying the largest fee ever to secure his contract, Real Madrid made sure to pay Bale the right wages to keep him in Spain for a very, very long time.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo – £475k/week

We all know who No. 1 is going to be, but it’s still incredible at how Ronaldo continues to dominate even past his perceived prime.

1. Lionel Messi – £500k/week

No surprises here, Messi is the best football player in the world and brings home the silverware almost every year to prove it.
