Chelsea midfielder aims Liverpool, Steven Gerrard jibe after Stamford Bridge defeat

The Gerrard slip

Chelsea midfielder Ramires has sent a veiled snub to Liverpool and Steve Gerrard on the same weekend that the Pensioners were defeated by the Reds at Stamford Bridge.

All is not well in West London, and Jose Mourinho’s future hangs in the balance after the reigning champions’ dismal start to the new campaign.

Following their 3-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s newly invigorated Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime, Chelsea remain mired in the bottom half of the Premier League table. After 11 matches, the Blues are 15th, having won only three and lost six of their games to date.

Midfielder Ramires—who opened the scoring on Saturday—is clearly keen to live in happier times.

When asked which was his favourite match between Chelsea and Liverpool, the Brazilian midfielder plumped for a match that he wasn’t even a part of…but it’s one that Reds fans won’t remember too fondly!

“My favourite game against them was the season before last at Anfield,” Ramires began, as per the club’s official website.

“They were close to winning the title but we went up there and won 2-0, Demba Ba scored and then Willian got another in the last minute on the break.

“That win left us with a lot of satisfaction but it also made us feel that if we’d won more home games we would have been further up the table ourselves.

“Maybe that game was one of the reasons that the following season we went out and won the league.”

The game was, of course, the match in which Steven Gerrard’s untimely slip changed the complexion of the clash and saw Brendan Rodgers’s side slip out of the title race.

How different could things have been, for Chelsea, for Liverpool, for Gerrard, and for Rodgers?!
