Man United suffer Neymar blow as Barcelona prepare deal to double his wages

Barcelona are set to offer star forward Neymar a new deal that will see him earn a reported £500,000-per-week to stop him from joining Manchester United, according to The Sun.

That means the Brazilian international will become one of the world’s highest paid players behind current teammate Lionel Messi (£565,000), and Real Madrid megastar Cristiano Ronaldo (£550,000) (via Sun).

United were keen on landing Naymar during the summer transfer window, with The Sun even claiming that they were ready to meet the £137m buyout clause that is installed in his current contract.

His father, Neymar Sr, confirmed the story two weeks ago, and now the La Liga champions plan on sitting down with the player and his father over the winter break in the Spanish season to thrash out the terms of the proposed deal before the transfer window re-opens in January (via Sun).

“This is the season we will sort out a new deal with Neymar,” Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu said.

“But we will try not to talk about the negotiations and to work discreetly until we can announce it.”

So far this term Neymar has been in typically prolific form, bagging 12 goals in 13 appearances across all competitions, and notching up six assists for his teammates in the process.
