Chelsea ready to fend off Man United in race to sign starlet Euro midfielder

Chelsea are said to be confident of fending off a challenge from the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain for the signature of young Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic when the transfer market opens in January, according to The Guardian.

A £1.2m offer from Hamburg in August prompted Red Star Belgrade to tie him down to a new three-year deal, but his form since then has not only added to his price tag but to further interest in his signature from England and France (via Guardian).

The Guardian claim that United had the 19-year-old scouted during Red Star’s 3-0 victory over city rivals FK Rad last weekend, though Chelsea’s recruitment department are said to have had him on their radar for months.

And now Chelsea are believed to be in the process of putting together a move for the teenager, though interest from Paris Saint Germain could be stepped up should midfielder Adrien Rabiot depart for Roma as expected (via Guardian).

Standing at 6’3, The Guardian reports that Grujic is similar is style and stature to current Blues star Nemanja Matic.
