Man United & Tottenham both keen on Newcastle United forward

Manchester United and Tottenham are both keeping a close eye on Newcastle United’s Spanish forward Ayoze Perez according to the Chronicle.

The 22-year-old moved to St James’ Park in June 2014 and scored seven goals in 25 Premier League starts in his debut season at the north-east club.

Newcastle United paid just £1.5m to bring in the cultured striker from Tenerife and could bank a fee well in excess of that sum and Perez himself is seemingly happy to be a target of fellow Premier League sides and especially pleased with speculation that former Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a big fan, stating;

“We all know Sir Alex Ferguson and how big he was for football.”

But Perez knows he has plenty to prove at St James’ Park first.

The former Tenerife ace reflected on Ferguson’s words and added: “They are big words that I have to prove so much.

“But I’m young and I have a long journey.

“I work so everything gets better.”

Perez also discussed apparent interest from White Hart Lane, adding;

“There was interest from Tottenham, especially Pochettino.

“It’s a very nice compliment for me.”

Newcastle United sit bottom of the Premier League table, having failed to win any of their opening eight fixtures, and if Steve McClaren’s side do not show signs of recovery there is every chance that a January bid for Perez will tempt the youngster into a winter exit.
