Schalke captain Benedikt Howedes drops Liverpool transfer hint

Schalke defender has dropped a hint that he could be interested in following Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool, according to the Metro.

Klopp’s recent arrival at Anfield has been followed by a number of links to Bundesliga players following suit – with those having previously featured under the manager at Dortmund being mentioned (via Metro).

And now, it looks as though Howedes could be the next in line with a report in German publication Bild highlighting the praise he paid the new Reds boss.

Bild asked Howedes whether he is tempted by the high wages on offer in the Premier League and would he be interested in following Klopp to England, and his answers were slightly revealing as he name dropped Liverpool in his reply.

“This may sound crazy, but for me it does not depend on the money. For that, I am too much of a football romantic and I am too ambitious,” he said.

“Abroad still excites me – England sure is an interesting choice. But of course, the money is also important, as footballers we can only earn money for a limited time.

“English football is very fortunate to have someone like Klopp in the league… Liverpool is a club with great tradition and values,” he said.

However, when asked if Klopp could be his next manager he gave a less than gratifying answer.

“I am with Schalke 04 and currently have an objective here… but of course for any footballer there are clubs which are more interesting than others,” he said.
