New Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce wants to reunite with former charge James Tomkins with the Daily Mirror claiming the £10m defender is on the Stadium of Light manager’s wish-list.
Allardyce left West Ham in May after four years at the East London side and has taken over at Sunderland following the resignation of Dick Advocaat.
Sunderland sit second from bottom in the Premier League table after failing to collect a single win from their opening eight fixtures and Allardyce faces a fight to steer the Black Cats away from the drop zone.

Tomkins signed a five year contract in February and it’s not entirely clear as to why the 26-year-old would consider a move to struggling Sunderland given how well new manager Slaven Bilic has started his tenure at West Ham.
West Ham sit in sixth spot and Tomkins has started six of the club’s eight Premier League matches this term and isn’t likely to consider a move to a side who are likely to be in a relegation dogfight for the rest of the season.
