Amidst even more calls for Arsene Wenger‘s dismissal from Arsenal, a legendary colleague has come out in support of the embattled Gunners boss.
According to the Metro, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Arsene Wenger to remain the manager at Emirates Stadium and said that Wenger has taken too much criticism.
“Arsene has taken a lot of flak,” Ferguson said.
“But who’s going to replace him? Who’s going to make it better (for Arsenal)?
“It’s a very difficult position for anyone who comes in after Arsene and has to change the philosophy he introduced, and kept, for all those years.”
Though Arsenal have finished in the top 4 on the Premier League table over the past 11 seasons, they haven’t won the Premier League under Wenger since the 2003-04 season. Ironically, many of Wenger’s title chases were thwarted by Ferguson, who won the Premier League ten times with Man United from 1997 to 2013.
Arsenal are have won three of their last four Premier League fixtures but lost their first two matches in the Champions League to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos – without having even faced the top club on the table, Bayern Munich.
Despite his Premier League woes though, Wenger is coming off back-to-back FA Cup and FA Community Shield wins, and he has the highest winning percentage in Arsenal managerial history.
