Tim Sherwood is apparently set to call time on Brad Guzan’s stint between the sticks at Aston Villa and is planning to bring in Loris Karius as his replacement.
According to the Mirror, the coach is looking for an upgrade on Guzan and sees 22-year-old Karius as the ideal man to bring solidity to the Villains’ backline.
The Mainz keeper—who was previously on the books of Manchester City—is a German U21 international, who first moved to the Bundesliga outfit three seasons ago on loan from the Etihad. Having proved himself in Rhineland-Palatinate, he eventually secured a permanent move to join the Carnival Club.
To date, he has represented Germany at every youth level from U17, and has already made one appearance for the U21 side.
Sherwood has reportedly sent his chief scout—Tony Coton—to Germany this week to cast an eye over Karius with a move said to be imminent.
