Liverpool have been dealt a blow with the news that big-money summer signing Christian Benteke is a doubt for the Reds’ upcoming local derby against Everton.
According to the Mirror, the Belgian frontman faces a ‘race against time’ to make the clash against Liverpool’s fierce rivals, after suffering a hamstring injury.
The attacker was replaced on Sunday during Liverpool’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Norwich City, and following scans, has been ruled out of the Merseysiders’ clash with Aston Villa—Benteke’s former club—at the weekend.
Fortunately, the tabloid report that the injury is only minor, and requires rest and recuperation rather than a medical intervention. However, facing 10 days on the sidelines, it remains to be seen whether Benteke will be back in action, or at peak fitness, for the clash against Everton on October.
In the meantime, Benteke will surely miss the League Cup meeting with Carlisle on Wednesday evening, the reunion with Villa on Saturday and the Europa League bout with Sion on October 1.

The forward’s absence will be a major loss for Brendan Rodgers, who is coming under increasing pressure following a poor run of results [Daily Mail].
The Northern Irish coach will not have to replace the forward, who has bagged two goals in his six league outings to date for the Anfield heavyweights. The likes of Danny Ings, Divock Origi, Danny Sturridge and Roberto Firmino all represent potential—if problematic—replacements.
