Arsenal XI for the second half of the season – reason to be optimistic?
A look at the Arsenal XI if they sign their three main January transfer targets, including important buys in midfield and attack that could revive their slim title hopes…
GK: Petr Cech
A superb summer signing, Petr Cech joined from Chelsea and should prove a great addition as number one, despite a poor start from Arsenal overall.
DR: Hector Bellerin
Still likely to be first choice at right-back, Hector Bellerin is a key performer for Arsenal and doesn’t need replacing.
DL: Nacho Monreal
Despite being linked with Athletic Bilbao in the summer, Nacho Monreal should continue as first choice even if rumours surface again in January.

Arsenal transfer news
DC: Gabriel
Many may feel Arsenal need another signing at centre-back, but January buy Gabriel has proven a big hit so far this season, despite his unfortunate sending off at the weekend.
DC: Laurent Koscielny
Still first choice for Arsenal, Laurent Koscielny’s place should be safe for the rest of the season whether he plays alongside Gabriel or Per Mertesacker.
MC: William Carvalho
Expected to be a target for Arsenal again this January, Sporting Lisbon starlet William Carvalho would be an ideal buy to strengthen in midfield, perhaps replacing Francis Coquelin.
MC: Santi Cazorla
Keeping his place as Arsenal’s main playmaker, Santi Cazorla has formed a fine partnership with Coquelin and should also shine alongside Carvalho.
AMR: Theo Walcott
After a fine start to the season, Theo Walcott should remain a key part of the Arsenal team, though he may be about to lose his place as central striker.
AML: Alexis Sanchez
Continuing out on the left, Alexis Sanchez has not been at his best for the Gunners so far, but surely won’t lose his place in the starting line up.
AMC: Isco
Strongly linked with Arsenal once again, Real Madrid playmaker Isco could come in after losing his place at the Bernabeu, and he possibly looks a better option than Mesut Ozil right now.
FC: Michy Batshuayi
Replacing Olivier Giroud, exciting young Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi seems to be one of Arsenal’s top targets for January, and he’d certainly inject some life into their attack.
