In a recent interview with Sky Sports, pundit Jamie Carragher has commented that while certain Manchester United summer signings have impressed him over the last few weeks, Louis van Gaal still needs further additions.
Van Gaal didn’t hesitate in splashing the cash this summer as he sought to remould the Red Devils’ squad.
The coach offloaded a considerable number of players during the transfer window, letting the likes of Rafael, Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao, Jonny Evans, Nani and Anders Lindegaard all leave the club.
The experienced Dutch manager also brought in the players to plug the games in the squad and encourage United to play in his preferred style.
As such, figures like Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger were introduced to a United squad already laced with established, accomplished stars.
While Schneiderlin—who arrived from Southampton—already had considerable Premier League experience, the other quartet have all moved to the EPL without having previously tasted the English game.
As such, it remains to be seen whether the four will be able to adapt to the notoriously tempestuous English game.
Already, Depay, for example, has struggled to find his best form in the domestic game. While he has hit the ground running in the Champions League, he has gone five games without a goal in the league.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher has identified which of the four have impressed him in their Red Devils showings to date, but insisted that the club need more quality additions.

“The signing of Matteo Darmian at right-back has been very good and Morgan Schneiderlin looks a very good addition. Bastian Schweinsteiger has come in and is improving and playing longer on the pitch now. He is starting more games.
“I think Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin will add to what United were perhaps lacking in central midfield, but in the striking department you are still not quite sure yet.
“I think they are good signings but I don’t think they are the players who will take the team where Louis van Gaal eventually wants to take them. Considering the money spent there are still areas that don’t look strong enough to win the Premier League or Champions League, which is what Van Gaal is ultimately aiming for.”
