Ex-Arsenal striker casts doubts over Jack Wilshere’s long-term fitness following latest injury setback

Former Arsenal striker John Hartson says he fears Jack Wilshere will never truly overcome his injury problems.

The midfielder was ruled out for up to three months earlier in the week after it was revealed that he was recovering slower than expected with the ankle problem sustained during pre-season and needed surgery in order to solve the problem once and for all.

Wilshere has missed a vast amount of games for club and country over the past few seasons and was ruled out for five months during the 2014-15 campaign another an operation on his troublesome ankle following a strong challenge from Manchester United defender Paddy McNair during the meeting at the Emirates Stadium last November.

The England international is penciled in for a return to first-team action in December if his rehabilitation runs smoothly, however, Hartson believes the 23-year-old is destined for a career full of injury setbacks:

“He is just very injury-prone.I am not a medical expert so I can’t they haven’t deal with it properly. I just think some players are destined to be injured all the time,” the Welshman told talkSPORT.

“Jack is so, so unfortunate because he has so much to offer when he is fit.”

“He has been at Arsenal all of his career and the amount of appearances he has had is shocking really.”

“Whenever he gets anywhere near full fitness, he has a setback, so you have to feel for the lad,” Hartson added.
