Angel Di Maria was Manchester United‘s galactico signing when he swapped the Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford in a British record £59.7m move last summer.
The Argentine, however, hugely disappointed and left a sour taste in the mouth of Red Devils supporters after giving up on the Premier League heavyweights just 12 months after his big-money move, sealing a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking to French newspaper Le Parisien, Di Maria has claimed that his happiness in Manchester was short lived, with life in the English city quickly becoming ‘complicated’.
The 27-year-old admits that the break-in on his family home was the pivotal reason behind his exit, but also reveals that his relationship with Louis van Gaal was difficult, stating that it quickly became ‘important’ for him to leave.
“Honestly, we were not happy,” he told Le Parisien, as quoted by Sky Sports. “At the beginning, we were a little happy but then things got complicated.
“After the break-in, it wasn’t reasonable to stay. My family wasn’t happy, my daughter was suffering, so it was important to leave.
“I didn’t get on very well with the coach so I believe the decision to join Paris was the best solution. At the end of the season when I left to play in the Copa America, I made the decision (to leave).”
