Manchester United? Sergio Ramos’ future was ‘fixed in just five minutes’, claims Real Madrid chief

Florentino Perez, Real Madrid president, has claimed that Sergio Ramos was never close to joining Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

At the end of last season, reports emerged that the now Los Blancos captain had grown disillusioned with life at the Santiago Bernabeu, and in the months that followed was tipped to swap Madrid for Manchester.

It was even claimed that Ramos had ordered Real to negotiate a deal with United – and no other club.

However, while the news angered Red Devils supporters, in reality it arrived with little surprise when the Spain international penned a new five-year contract with the La Liga BBVA giants, and therefore got what he was chasing – a satisfied ego.

Upon signing his new deal, he insisted that “my heart and head have always been with Real Madrid so I couldn’t be happier,” as quoted by BBC Sport.

And Perez has echoed Ramos’ words, stating that an exit was never a possibility, with neither the club nor the player searching for an escape.

Though his assertion that the centre-back’s future was settled in just five minutes is a little dubious to say the least.

Speaking to Cadena COPE, the Spanish businessman said: “Ramos never wanted to leave Madrid and Madrid never wanted him to leave”, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“It took us five minutes to fix it.”
