England national team manager Roy Hodgson believes Manchester United defender Luke Shaw can emulate Ashley Cole‘s achievements at international level.
The former Southampton youngster was handed a recall to the Three Lions squad for first time since late 2014 and was named in the starting XI for both of the recent Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland.
The left-back produced two very accomplished performances and looks to have the edge in the battle to start in that position at next summer’s tournament in France ahead of the more experienced duo Leighton Baines, who missed the double header through injury, and Kieran Gibbs.
Hogdson was also impressed with Shaw’s displays and tipped the 20-year-old to go on and win over 100 caps for the country just like the former Arsenal and Chelsea star:
He’s still only 20 and if he keeps going then he’s on track to be another Ashley Cole, a 100 cap man and I would advise him to study Ashley Cole, look at what Ashley did for England and set my sights on the same thing, Hodgson said [via talkSPORT].

Shaw has begun to show why United paid a reported £30million fee for his signature last summer as he is finally getting a run of games under his belt at club level and will surely be a permanent fixture in the national team if he can steer clear of injuries.
