Arsenal news and transfer rumour round up: Wenger defends transfers, DOUBLE injury boost, and refugee help

Arsenal have made a shaky start to the season, and will be hoping to improve this after the international break.

After an opening weekend loss to West Ham, they have only beaten Crystal Palace and Newcastle United thanks to own goals. A draw to Liverpool has also left them well off Premier League leaders Manchester City.

When the Gunners return, they face Stoke City before tough fixtures against Chelsea and Tottenham as well as the beginning of their Champions League campaign.

5) Money given to refugees

Arsene Wenger has revealed that the North Londoners are going to donate £1 from every ticket sold to help with the refugee crisis, reports the Metro.

“For the game against Stoke, for every ticket sold, £1 will be donated to victims of the Syrian crisis, ” said the Frenchman.

The 65-year-old has defended the fact that Arsenal are the only club in Europe’s top five leagues to have not signed an outfield player in the summer, reports The Guardian.

“I have made more than 300 transfers and every time it’s a decision to make,” he said, “Do you buy the player because he strengthens his squad or not? The solutions we had were not convincing at all.

“In the end you do not buy to give hope, you want to buy because the players who come in can help your squad to be stronger. Buying and selling is one way to strengthen your team but that’s not the only way.”

Arsenal are have been sending scouts to watch Juventus ace Daniele Rugani ahead of the January transfer window, reports the Metro.

The 21-year-old centre-back impressed on loan at Empoli last season, and could bring add another impressive prospect to the Gunners’ back line. Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin are two already at the club.
