Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah‘s loan move from Chelsea to Serie A giants AS Roma is under investigation by FIFA, Star Sport reports.
The former FC Basel star arrived at the Stadio Olimpico during the summer transfer window after finding himself surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge by manager Jose Mourinho for the new season.
The 23-year-old attracted interest from a number of top European clubs during the transfer window including fellow Italian club Fiorentina, who were keen to resign the winger following his impressive stint at the club during the second half of the 2014-15 campaign.
FIFA are set to launch an investigation into Viola’s claim that there was a clause in the player’s contract from last season which entitled them to extending the loan deal for the current campaign.
Despite this reported clause, Salah eventually snubbed a return to the Stadio Artemio Franchi stadium and the club’s director of football Daniele Prade says the case will now be handled by football’s governing body:
“FIFA themselves gave Salah only a provisional transfer from here until December, and they’ll make a ruling then,” he said.
“I never thought Salah’s mind could have turned that way. I was wrong in saying that I was certain he’d stay with us in January.”
“You never stop learning in this job, I never expected what happened.”
“There was an abrupt turn in the player’s mind. He was the one who wanted to sign the private agreement,” Prade added.
