The transfer window has come to a close, and Premier League sides are stuck with what they have managed to sign over the summer.
This could be a major problem for many of the top flight clubs. Some signings already appear to be mistakes, with teams potentially short handed until at least January. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are amongst those who could have made pricey mistakes over the last few months.
Here is a side made up of some of the worst arrivals to English clubs…

Chelsea transfer gossip
GK) Adam Bogdan, Liverpool
Simon Mignolet came in for some criticism last season, so what does Brendan Rodgers do? He signs a Championship ‘keeper on a free contract, that’s what. Will the former Bolton man really challenge the Belgian?
CB) Papy Djilobodji, Chelsea
After missing out on Everton ace John Stones the Blues appeared to panic, signing a 26-year-old centre-back who has never looked out of place at a mid-table Ligue 1 side.
CB) Younes Kaboul, Sunderland
The 29-year-old was a key part of the Black Cats’ terrible start to the campaign, and if he hadn’t got injured could well have been dropped anyway.
CB) Sylvain Distin, AFC Bournemouth
What Eddie Howe’s side dearly needs is a reliable defender with Premier League experience. While the Frenchman has the latter, his performances for Everton last season show that he can sadly no longer cut it at this level.
CM) Fabian Delph, Manchester City
While not especially bad business from City’s perspective, it could be awful for the England international. Why, in a European Championship season, he has decided to move somewhere first team action is doubtful is unknown. After his injury and the Citizens’ lightning start he could be set to become the new Jack Rodwell.
CM) Tom Cleverley, Everton
Although not the worst arrival of the summer, the midfielder was a fairly unnecessary addition at Goodison Park. The fact that yet another central midfielder has arrived and a no. 10 hasn’t could be a major blow for the Toffees.
LM) Max Gradel, AFC Bournemouth
Very harsh, but the winger’s ACL ligament problem means that he is likely out until 2016. Moreover, after such a terrible injury he may not be the same player when he returns.
RM) Christian Atsu, AFC Bournemouth
Another signing from the Cherries that doesn’t inspire confidence in their ability to stay up. The Ghana international failed at Everton last time round, and there is no reason to believe he will improve at Dean Court.
ST) Radamel Falcao, Chelsea
Possibly the biggest flop of last season with Manchester United, and he could rival for the unwanted title again at Stamford Bridge.
ST) Anthony Martial, Manchester United
The 19-year-old may become the player that some expect him to be, but spending £36m (which could rise to £58m) on a player with only 52 league appearances is a massive risk.
ST) Aleksandar Mitrovic, Newcastle United
In four Premier League appearances, the 20-year-old has two yellow cards and a red. How long will it take him to realise referees are stricter in the top flight?
