Tottenham: International defender completes White Hart Lane exit

Tottenham Hotspur right-back DeAndre Yedlin has completed a deadline-day departure from White Hart Lane, moving to Sunderland for the rest of the 2015-16 season.

The USA international moved to north London from Seattle Sounders in December 2014 [The Guardian] and made his debut for the Lilywhites in April, in a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa [Goal].

Yedlin helped the Sounders win the Western Conference title during his time in Major League Soccer, but has struggled to make an impact during his time at Spurs to date.

The attack-minded full-back featured for the United States at the 2014 World Cup—impressing briefly in matches against Portugal, Germany and Belgium—but struggled to unseat the likes of Kyle Walker and, formerly, Vlad Chiriches at Tottenham.

The summer arrival of Kieran Trippier at Burnley, and the return to fitness of Walker has seemingly reduced Yedlin’s first-team options in North London, and he has secured a move to the Stadium of Light.

The speedy American will provide competition with the likes of Billy Jones and Wes Brown as an option at right-back for Dick Advocaat.
