1) Dealing with De Gea

Despite insisting all summer that they wouldn’t sell David de Gea, United now look set to allow him a departure in the final hours of the transfer window, giving them no time to bring in the replacement they need, with Sergio Romero unconvincing as number one so far.

2) Letting Pedro join Chelsea

Despite being available for a bargain £21m, Pedro was somehow deemed too expensive by United despite lengthy talks with Barcelona, and the classy Spanish winger instead joined rivals Chelsea, quickly becoming one of the buys of the summer with a memorable debut.

3) Hugely overpaying for Martial

With no options left, United now look set to fork out a ridiculous £58m to sign AS Monaco striker Anthony Martial. The 19-year-old has 15 career goals to his name and was not always a regular for the Ligue 1 side, but is somehow seen as a more worthwhile option than Pedro for a fraction of the price.

4) Signing an over-the-hill Schweinsteiger

A player who was on United’s radar for some time, it is only now that they’ve realised Bastian Schweinsteiger is badly burnt out and not fit enough for the Premier League. In and out of the side, it seems unlikely the German international will really hit top form at Old Trafford.

5) Di Maria’s quick exit

A world class player not given enough time, Angel Di Maria left for nearly £16m less than United paid for him just a year earlier, and will surely prove a great buy for PSG.

6) STILL no centre-back signings

With Jonny Evans leaving, United now have even fewer centre-backs than before, with Daley Blind moved into this unfamiliar role and no progress on a new arrival after it eventually emerged they weren’t going to get Sergio Ramos.
