Tottenham Hotspur remain hopeful of landing West Brom striker Saido Berahino before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, Mirror Sport reports.
The north London outfit have been on the market for a new centre-forward all summer in hopes of providing cover and competition for Harry Kane, who is yet to open his account this season after netting 21 league goals during the previous campaign.
The club are short of options in the attacking department following the sale of record signing Roberto Soldado to Liga BBVA outfit Villarreal [via Independent Sport], while Emmanuel Adebayor could join London rivals West Ham in the coming days and that has resulted in Berahino emerging as manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice target.
Spurs’ pursuit of the Baggies hitman looked to have failed after chairman Jeremy Peace rejected the player’s written transfer request last week and then reiterated the club’s stance of wanting to keep hold of their prized asset.

However, fresh reports claim that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is prepared to make one final offer for Berahino in a bid to lure him to White Hart Lane on deadline day.
Should a deal for the 22-year-old go through before the window shuts on September 1, then he will join the club’s other summer recruits in Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Clinton N’Jie and Heung-Min Son.
