How well did Liverpool spend that Suarez money? Hint: not very well.
Liverpool may have raked in a cool £75m from the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer, but did they reinvest it well? Here’s a look at the eight players the club brought in last summer, in what largely looks like poor business from the Reds…
1) Mario Balotelli – MISS
Already loaned out by Liverpool, Mario Balotelli proved an awful signing, scoring only one Premier League goal for the Reds – precisely 30 fewer than Suarez managed in his final season at Anfield.

2) Dejan Lovren – MISS
Improved so far this season, but £20m still looks a lot for Dejan Lovren considering his form for Liverpool in his first season, with plenty of error-prone performances in 2014/15.
3) Adam Lallana – MISS
Another player who has struggled since moving from Southampton to Liverpool, midfielder Adam Lallana has had some good moments but has generally failed to replicate his best form due to niggling injury problems seeing him go in and out of the team.
4) Alberto Moreno – MISS
A young player with plenty of potential, it’s still fair to say that Alberto Moreno has not yet fulfilled that promise in his time with Liverpool, falling out of favour this season after the arrival of Joe Gomez.
5) Lazar Markovic – MISS
Heading out on loan to Fenerbahce, Lazar Markovic has also seen his career go somewhat downhill after joining Liverpool, despite being another highly-rated young talent.
6) Rickie Lambert
Another signing from last summer that has already gone, Rickie Lambert may only have cost £4m but was another big mistake in an attempt to fill the void left by Suarez up front.
7) Divock Origi – ?
Yet to break into the Liverpool first team, Divock Origi looks a risky signing after arriving this season on the back of a poor season on loan with Lille. Too soon to call a miss, certainly, but yet to give too much indication that he’ll be a big hit.
8) Emre Can – HIT
The only real hit on this list, Emre Can has performed very well in both defence and midfield since moving from Bayer Leverkusen, and looks a real prospect for the future and potential future captain.
