Manchester United consider late bid for £25m-rated Tottenham target

during the Manchester United training session / press conference held at Jan Breydel Stadium on August 25, 2015 in Brugge, Belgium.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is considering a late move for long-term Tottenham target Saido Berahino, according to The Times via the Daily Star.

The Old Trafford manager has seen his side struggle for goals, managing just two in three Premier League fixtures, and is yet to successfully replace Robin van Persie following the Dutch international’s move to Fenerbahce earlier this summer.

22-year-old Baggies forward Berahino netted 20 goals in all competitions last season but hasn’t registered a goal this term and West Brom boss Tony Pulis elected to drop the England Under 21 international for their fixture with Chelsea on the weekend, stating that the marksman had been ‘unsettled’ by exit talk (via BBC Sport).

The Daily Star claims Berahino is rated at £25m, and Tottenham have already failed with an £18m bid for the Hawthorns man (via The Daily Mail).

Van Gaal has used Wayne Rooney in a central striking role this term, but the England man has now gone ten Premier League games without a goal.

United elected to usher Javier Hernandez back into the fold, following his season-long loan spell at Real Madrid, but the Mexican has only been used in a cameo role this term.

Louis van Gaal has been linked with a number of high-profile forwards with the likes of Neymar (via The Guardian) and Thomas Muller (via The Daily Mail) repeatedly said to be Man United targets, a move for Berahino may prove a far easier nut to crack.
