Arsenal are set to fork out the £21.2m required to active Grzegorz Krychowiak‘s Sevilla release clause according to the Independent.
The 25-year-old tough-tackling La Liga star impressed during his debut season in Spain as he helped his Andalusian side to a Europa League crown and subsequent qualification for the Champions League.
Prior to his move to Spain, Krychowiak spent his entire professional footballing career in France with spells as Bordeaux and Reims and has 24 Polish national team caps to his name.
Arsene Wenger doesn’t have a wealth of defensive midfield options at present and those he does have are flawed.
Veteran Spaniard Mikel Arteta has been sidelined with injuries for much of the past three seasons, and former AC Milan man Mathieu Flamini is very one-dimensional and not the same player he was during his first spell at the Emirates Stadium.
Last season, Wenger was forced to recall utility man Francis Coquelin from his loan spell at Championship side Charlton Athletic and the Frenchman surprised many with a superb run of form that helped Arsenal to secure their customary top four finish as well as an FA Cup triumph.
Can Coquelin replicate that form in 2015/16? That would be a tough ask.

Grzegorz Krychowiak would provide a certain amount of insurance in the role and Arsenal have thus far only made one high-profile signing this summer, the capture of keeper Petr Cech, and the addition of the no-nonsense Sevilla star would aid the North London side’s push for major honours.
