Liverpool drew 0-0 with Arsenal on Monday, and were perhaps unlucky to have only come away from the Emirates Stadium with a point.
The Merseyside club created several goal scoring chances in a first half which they largely controlled, pouncing on what was an inexperienced Arsenal back line. Christian Benteke and Philippe Coutinho came particularly close to breaking the deadlock.
In the second 45 minutes the Merseyside club sat deeper, soaking up a lot of pressure from their North London rivals. All round, it was an accomplished away performance from Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Arsenal player ratings v Liverpool: Petr Cech SHINES as new-look defence FALTERS
Here is how their players rated…
GK) Simon Mignolet, 8
Several good saves in the second half to stop the Gunners from taking the lead.
LB) Joe Gomez, 8
Another impressive showing from the 18-year-old, who is fast becoming one of the best young players in the league.
RB) Nathaniel Clyne, 7
Kept Alexis Sanchez fairly quiet throughout the encounter, and also put some dangerous crosses in for Christian Benteke in to the box.
CB) Dejan Lovren, 7
Solid again from the former Southampton man, and he is slowly rebuilding his reputation at Anfield.
CB) Martin Skrtel, 8
Olivier Giroud was largely peripheral in the match, thanks to the 30-year-old.
CDM) Lucas, 7
Was an important part of the midfield block which suffocated Arsenal in the first half. Could it still be his last appearance for the team?
CM) James Milner, 7
Worked hard throughout, and showed how important he has become to Brendan Rodgers’ side in such a short time.
CM) Emre Can, 6
Also helped the team defensively, but it may be a while before he gets used to being further forward again and contributes offensively.
LW) Philippe Coutinho, 8
Hit the bar and the post, and looked the most likely to be involved if Liverpool scored. Against a less inspired goalkeeper he probably would have hit the back of the net at some point.
RW) Roberto Firmino, 7
Still getting used to the pace of the Premier League, but was able to make a few contributions and could yet be a solid acquisition.
ST) Christian Benteke, 7
Caused Gabriel and Chambers trouble all evening with his physical approach, and was only denied a goal by a brilliant Petr Cech save.
SUB) Jordan Ibe, 6
Didn’t make a huge difference when coming on, but was perhaps unlucky to be brought on when his team were on the back foot.
SUB) Jordan Rossiter, 6
Another who didn’t make a massive impact, but the time on the pitch will help the 18-year-old’s development no end.
SUB) Alberto Moreno, 5
Made one lung-busting run, but that also left the Spaniard out of position when the Gunners went straight back down the other end.
